Barbara Miller Lane Wins Two Awards for Her Latest Book

Barbara Lane Book_0Barbara Miller Lane, the Mellon Professor of the Humanities, Emerita at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, has received two awards for her scholarship. Professor Lane is being honored for her book Houses for a New World: Builders and Buyers in American Suburbs, 1945-1965 (Princeton University Press, 2015).

Barbara Miller LaneProfessor Lane will be presented the Athenaeum Literary Award from the Philadelphia Athenaeum in early May. The award honors books of literary excellence that are notable for their significance and importance to the general public. The book also is the winner of the 2016 PROSE Award from the Association of American Publishers.

Dr. Lane joined the faculty at Bryn Mawr College in 1962. She transitioned to emerita status in 1999 but continues on as a research professor in the department of growth and structure of cities at the college. Professor Lane holds bachelor’s degrees from the University of Chicago and Barnard College in New York City. She earned a master’s degree at Radcliffe College and holds a Ph.D. in history from Harvard University.
