New Film on the Only Woman in the 1949 Graduating Class at the University of South Dakota Law School

Grace Steinberg Day was the only woman in the 1949 graduating class at University of South Dakota School of Law. There were 175 men. Day reports that “some of the men were nice guys but they just wanted to play dirty tricks and I can remember their antics just like it was yesterday.”
The daughter of Polish immigrants went on to a successful career as an attorney in Missouri. Now 88 years old, she remains active as a court-appointed volunteer.
Heather McMichael, a former television news reporter and anchor who now works in legal public relations, has produced a 30-minute documentary on this pioneering woman entitled Amazing Grace. The film was recently shown on the law school’s campus.
