The board of trustees of Princeton University in New Jersey has announced the hiring of four new faculty members who will begin teaching this coming fall. All four of the new hires are women.
Joanna Dunkley, a professor of astrophysics at Exeter College of the University of Oxford in England, will join the Princeton faculty this coming fall as a full professor. Her research is focused on cosmic microwave background radiation leftover from the Big Bang. Professor Dunkley earned a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge and a Ph.D. at the University of Oxford. She conducted postdoctoral research at Princeton University during the 2006-07 academic year.
Divya Cherian was hired as an assistant professor of history, beginning this coming fall. She currently is a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton. A native of India, Dr. Cherian earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Delhi, a master’s degree at Jawaharlal Nehru University, and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from Columbia University in New York City.
Tetiana Shcherbyna was appointed assistant professor of mathematics at Princeton, beginning this fall. Since 2013, she has been a postdoctoral fellow at St. Petersburg State University in Russia. Dr. Shcherbyna holds a master’s degree from Karazin Kharkiv National University and a Ph.D. from the Institute for Low Temperature Physics in Kharkov. Ukraine.
Mary Caswell Stoddard will be an assistant professor of ecology and evolutionary biology. She has been a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellow at Harvard University since 2012. Her research focuses on avian vision and the evolution of color in bird plumage. Dr. Stoddard is a graduate of Yale University and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in England.
