Four Women Who Are Leaving Their Administrative Posts in Academia

Dykens_ElizabethElizabeth Dykens, director of the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center since 2009, announced that she will step down from this position. The center conducts research and provides services to people with developmental disabilities. Dr. Dykens will continue on at the university as a professor of psychology.

Professor Dykens is a graduate of Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Kansas.

BarczykEwa Barczyk, associate provost and director of libraries at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has announced her retirement. Barczyk joined the staff at the University of Wisconsin in 1985 after serving for two years as a reference librarian at Yale University.

Barczyk is a graduate of Loyola University of Chicago. She holds a master’s degree in Slavic studies from the University of Kansas and a master of library and information science degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

claibornCandis Claiborn, dean of the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture at Washington State University, announced that she will step down as dean in August. She has led the college for the past 10 years. Dr. Claiborn will return to her faculty position as a professor in the department of civil and environmental engineering and continue her work on air quality research.

Professor Claiborn joined the faculty at Washington State University in 1991. She is a graduate of the University of Idaho and holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from North Carolina State University.

MelissaWoo-Melissa Woo has stepped down from her post as vice provost for information technology and chief information officer at the University of Oregon. She has served in this role since 2012. Earlier, Dr. Woo was director of university information technology services at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Dr. Woo is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley and holds a Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Illinois.
