Seven Women Scholars Are Being Honored With Prestigious Awards

Campus_042111Lori Pollock, a professor of computer and information sciences at the University of Delaware, has been selected to receive the SIGSOFT Influential Award from the Association for Computing Machinery. Professor Pollock will be honored in May at the International Conference on Software Engineering in Austin, Texas, for her efforts to mentor students, innovation in software engineering education, and for educational research.

Dr. Pollock is a magna cum laude graduate of Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, where she double majored in computer science and economics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh.

szeigler-200Stacy Zeigler, clinical professor of physical therapy at Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, has been selected to receive the LAMPlighter Award from the American Physical Therapy Association. She is being honored for her leadership in physical therapy education.

Dr. Zeigler has been on the faculty at Clarkson University since 2003. She is a graduate of Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York. Professor Zeigler earned a master’s degree in health administration and wellness promotion from the California College for Health Sciences and a doctorate on physical therapy from Simmons College in Boston.

HeatonPamPamela C. Heaton, associate professor and chair of the division of pharmacy practice and administration at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Pharmacy, has been selected to receive the Wiederholt Prize at the American Pharmacists Association Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science Awards in Baltimore in March. She is being honored for authoring the best paper published over the past two years in the Journal of the American Pharmacists Association.

Dr. Heaton holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, all from the University of Cincinnati.

joanne_eppsJoAnne Epps, dean of the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia, received the 2016 Spirit of Excellence Award from the Commission on Racial and Ethnic Diversity of the American Bar Association.

Dean Epps has led the law school since 2008 and has served on the faculty since 1985. She is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and Yale Law School.

Grace-SchulmanGrace Schulman, Distinguished Professor of English at Baruch College of the City University of New York, has been chosen to receive the 2016 Frost Medal for Distinguished Achievement in American Poetry from the Poetry Society of America. Professor Schulman is the author of seven poetry collections including her most recent work, Without a Claim (Mariner Books, 2013).

Professor Schulman is a graduate of American University in Washington, D.C., and holds a Ph.D. from American University.

Caples2Virginia Caples, who served as interim president of Alabama A&M University on two occasions, was recognized by the board of trustees with the naming of Virginia Caples Lifelong Learning Institute in her honor. Dr. Caples has been associated with the university for 38 years and has served as Distinguished University Professor and provost.

Dr. Caples is a graduate of Alcorn State University in Mississippi. She earned a master’s degree and a doctorate in home economics education from Iowa State University.

Colorado State UniversityJanice Moore, professor of biology at Colorado State University, has been selected to receive the 2016 Exemplar Award from the Animal Behavior Society for her long-term contributions to the study of animal behavior. Dr. Moore will be honored at the society’s annual meeting this summer.

Dr. Moore’s research focuses on the ecology and evolution of parasitic worms. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico.
