Rice University Executive Leaves to Become Director of Education for the City of Houston

Juliet StipecheFor the past three years, Juliet Stipeche has served as associate director of the Richard Tapia Center for Excellence and Equity at Rice University in Houston, Texas. The mission of the center is to increase the number of Hispanics, African Americans, Native Americans, and women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) with an emphasis on leadership development. As associate director, Stipeche oversaw such programs at the Tapia Math-Science Scholars program and the Institute for African American Mentoring in Computer Science.

But now Stipeche has been named to the new position of director of education for the city of Houston by Mayor Sylvester Turner. In this role, she will organize programs, events, and conferences to provide students and families with the necessary resources to plan for high school graduation, college, and careers. “I look forward to collaborating with fantastic community partners to build lasting relationships to promote education excellence in the city of Houston,” Stipeche said.

Stipeche is a magna cum laude graduate of Rice University, where she majored in political science. She earned a law degree at the University of Texas.
