Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, has announced the appointment of eight new faculty members. Four of the new hires are women.
Abigail Boggs is a new assistant professor of sociology. She is the author of American Futures: International Studies and the Global U.S. University which is currently under review. Dr. Boggs is a graduate of Wesleyan University and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis.
Courtney J. Patterson is also a new assistant professor of sociology. She was a teaching fellow in critical identity studies at Beloit College in Wisconsin. She is the author of Fat Chance, Slim Chance: Identity, Culture and a Politic of Fatness, which is currently under review. Patterson is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and is currently completing her doctoral degree at Northwestern University.
Renee Sher was hired as an assistant professor of physics. Her research concentrates on the study of semiconductors and organic polymers with a focus on photovoltaic materials. Dr. Sher is a 2007 graduate of Wesleyan University and earned a Ph.D. at Harvard University.
Royette Tavernier is a new assistant professor of psychology. A native of the island of Dominica, Dr. Tavernier is an expert in sleep research with a focus on adolescents and young adults. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Trent University and a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Brock University, both in Ontario, Canada.
