Professor Huda Zoghbi to Receive the Inaugural Nemmers Prize in Medical Science

Huda Y. Zoghbi, director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital and a professor of molecular and human genetics at the Baylor University College of Medicine in Houston, has been selected to receive the inaugural Mechthild Esser Nemmers Prize in Medical Science from Northwestern University. The award honors “a physician-scientist whose body of research exhibits outstanding achievement in their discipline as demonstrated by works of lasting significance.”
Dr. Zoghbi is being honored for her work on Rett syndrome and other neurological disorders. As the winner of the Nemmers Prize, she will give a public lecture and participate in other scholarly activities at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago during the coming year. She will also receive a $200,000 stipend.
A native of Lebanon, Dr. Zoghbi received her medical training at the American University of Beirut and Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. She joined the faculty at the Baylor College of Medicine in 1988.
