American Council on Education Report on the Status of Women in Higher Education

New American Council on Education reportA new report from the American Council on Education on the status of women in higher education. The report notes that women have earned more than 50 percent of all bachelor’s degrees since 1981 and more than 50 percent of all master’s degrees since 1991. Women also now earn almost as many as doctorates as men.

Yet in 2014, women held only 31 percent of all full professorships at colleges and universities in the United States. Women make less money than men at all faculty levels. And women are less than 30 percent of all college and university presidents.

The full report, Pipelines, Pathways, and Institutional Leadership: An Update on the Status of Women in Higher Education, was prepared by Heather L. Johnson, a graduate research associate at the American Council on Education. The report may be downloaded by clicking here.
