Two Women Are Finalists for Dean of the College of Science at Virginia Tech

Virginia-Tech-LogoVirginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg has announced three finalists for the position of dean of the College of Science. All three candidates will visit the Virginia Tech campus by the middle of February for interviews and an open forum presentation to the campus community. Two of the three finalists are women.

RWDoergeRebecca W. Doerge is the Trent and Julia Anderson Distinguished Professor of Statistics at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She holds a joint appointment in the College of Agriculture and the College of Science. Dr. Doerge joined the Purdue University faculty in 1995. Professor Doerge holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from the University of Utah. She earned a Ph.D. in statistics at North Carolina State University in Raleigh and did postdoctoral research at Cornell University.

Morton_Sally_CSally C. Morton is a professor and chair of the department of biostatistics in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh. There, she is also the director of the Comparative Effectiveness Research Center in the Health Policy Institute. Dr. Morton holds a master’s degree in statistics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. She earned a second master’s degree in operations research and a Ph.D. in statistics at Stanford University in California.

Most recently, Dr. Sanders served as vice president of experiential product management and interim vice president of product and technology at Western Governors University.
