A new report from the Association of American Medical Colleges finds that while women have made some progress in academic medicine, they have a very long way to go before they near parity with men.
Some of the findings include:
- Women make up 38 percent of all medical school faculty.
- Women are 34 percent of associate professors and only 21 percent of full professors.
- Women are 15 percent of all department chairs in academic medicine.
- Women are 16 percent of the deans of U.S. medical schools.
- The percentage of women among all applicants to U.S. medical schools has declined in recent years.
