University of Texas at Austin Names Its Next Provost

mcinnis_philip_de_jong_photographerMaurie D. McInnis was named the next provost and executive vice president at the University of Texas at Austin. She will begin her new role on July 1. In addition to her role as provost, Dr. McInnis will receive a faculty appointment in the department of American studies in the College of Liberal Arts.

McInnisBookCurrently, Dr. McInnis is vice provost for academic affairs and a professor of art history at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. Before being named vice provost in 2013, Professor McInnis was associate dean for undergraduate academic programs at the University of Virginia.

Professor McInnis is respected scholar in the cultural history of American art in the colonial and antebellum South. She is the author of Slaves Waiting for Sale: Abolitionist Art and the American Slave Trade (University of Chicago Press, 2011).

A graduate of the University of Virginia, Dr. McInnis earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in art history at Yale University.
