Rebecca Dutch, a professor of molecular and cellular biochemistry and associate dean of biomedical education in the College of Medicine at the University of Kentucky, was named president-elect of the American Society of Virology. She will serve as president-elect for one year and then become president of the society in 2016.
The American Society of Virology was founded in 1981. It has more than 3,000 members worldwide whose research concentrates on human, animal, insect, plant, fungal, and bacterial viruses.
Professor Dutch is a graduate of Michigan State University, where she double majored in microbiology and biochemistry. She holds a master’s degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge in England and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Stanford University in California.
