Five faculty members have been named Harvard College Professors. The honor is given to faculty members who are recognized for excellence in undergraduate teaching and for their contributions in advising and mentoring students. The professorships were established in 1997 and provide extra financial support for research. Three of the five faculty members named Harvard College Professors are women.
Evelyn Hu is the Tarr-Coyne Professor of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. She came to Harvard in 2009 after teaching for 25 years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Hu is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University.
Elena M. Kramer is the Bussey Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. Her research is focused on the evolution of floral morphology or how flowers have changed over the course of evolutionary time. Professor Kramer is a summa cum laude graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, and development biology from Yale University.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
