Three Women Scholars Named Harvard College Professors

Harvard-logo_7Five faculty members have been named Harvard College Professors. The honor is given to faculty members who are recognized for excellence in undergraduate teaching and for their contributions in advising and mentoring students. The professorships were established in 1997 and provide extra financial support for research. Three of the five faculty members named Harvard College Professors are women.

Hu_EvelynEvelyn Hu is the Tarr-Coyne Professor of Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering. She came to Harvard in 2009 after teaching for 25 years at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Hu is a graduate of Barnard College in New York City. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University.

kramerElena M. Kramer is the Bussey Professor of Organismic and Evolutionary Biology. Her research is focused on the evolution of floral morphology or how flowers have changed over the course of evolutionary time. Professor Kramer is a summa cum laude graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She holds a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, and development biology from Yale University.

Maya Jasanoff, 300 dpiMaya Jasanoff is the Coolidge Professor of History. She is the author of Liberty’s Exiles: American Loyalists in the Revolutionary World (Alfred A. Knopf, 2011) and Edge of Empire: Lives, Culture, and Conquest in the East, 1750-1850 (Alfred A. Knopf, 2005). Professor Jasanoff is a graduate of Harvard University. She earned a master’s degree at the University of Cambridge in England and a Ph.D. at Yale University.
