Seven Women Scholars in New Faculty Roles

tuttle_becky_grey0Rebecca Tuttle was named an assistant professor of surgery at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Tuttle is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, melanoma, and other malignancies.

Dr. Tuttle is a graduate of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati and completed her surgical residency at Wright State University.

dana-mccoyDana Charles McCoy is a new assistant professor at the Graduate School of Education at Harvard University. She has been serving as postdoctoral fellow with the school’s Center on the Developing Child.

Dr. McCoy is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, where she majored in psychological and brain sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in applied psychology from New York University.

HindmanJane Hindman was named professor of English at Guttman Community College in New York City. She was director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Queensborough Community College in New York. Dr. Hindman previously served on the faculty at San Diego State University and Montana State University.

Dr. Hindman is a graduate of Mansfield University of Pennsylvania, where she double majored in English and philosophy. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in rhetoric, composition, and the teaching of English from the University of Arizona.

sturtzLinda Sturtz is a new tenured professor and chair of the department of history at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota. She had served on the faculty at Beloit College in Wisconsin for 20 years. Dr. Sturtz is the author of Within Her Power: Propertied Women in Colonial Virginia (Routledge, 2002).

Professor Sturtz is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She earned a master’s degree at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and a Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis.

stromerJennifer Stromer-Galley, an associate professor in the School of Information Studies at Syracuse University, is taking on the added role as director of the new Center for Computational and Data Sciences at the university. Before joining the faculty at Syracuse University in 2012, Dr. Stromer-Galley taught at the University at Albany of the State University of New York System.

Dr. Stromer-Galley holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Minnesota. She earned a Ph.D. at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

bergmannKristin Bergmann is a new assistant professor in the department of Earth, atmosphere, and planetary sciences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. She was a junior fellow with the Harvard Society of Fellows.

Dr. Bergmann is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. She holds a Ph.D. from the California Institute of Technology.

UAH PhotographerShuang Zhao was named an assistant professor with joint appointments in the department of political science and atmospheric science at the University of Alabama at Huntsville.

Dr. Zhao is a graduate of Beijing Technology and Business University in China. She holds a master’s degree in public affairs from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in political science and environmental affairs from Indiana University.

Duke University’s Svati H. Shah to Lead the American Heart Association

Dr. Shah is the Ursula Geller Distinguished Professor of Research in Cardiovascular Diseases and associate dean for translational research at the Duke University School of Medicine. She will serve as president-elect of the American Heart Association in 2026–2027, followed by a one-year term as president in 2027–2028.
