A Half Dozen Women in New University Teaching Roles

rousselleElizabeth S. Roussele was promoted to full professor in the department of languages at Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans. She joined the faculty at the university in 1998 and teaches Spanish and French. Dr. Roussele is the author of Gender and Modernity in Spanish Literature, 1789-1920 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014).

Professor Roussele is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where she double majored in French and psychology. She holds a master’s degree in French studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Ph.D. in Spanish literature from Tulane University in New Orleans.

Eliza Pavalko, the Allen D. and Polly S. Grimshaw Professor of Sociology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University in Bloomington, has been given the additional responsibility as vice provost for faculty and academic affairs. Dr. Pavalko has been on the faculty at Indiana University since 1991.

Dr. Pavalko has served as editor of the Journal of Health and Social Behavior. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Florida State University.

20130617_TCB4517Donna Brown, a professor in the department of family and consumer sciences at the University of Wyoming, is the new leader of the Ellbogen Center for Teaching and Learning at the university.

Dr. Brown is a native of Australia and was educated at the University of New South Wales. She has served as chair of her department at the University of Wyoming and as associate dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

weaver-g08Gabriela Weaver was appointed professor of chemistry at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Since 2014, she has been vice provost for faculty development and director of the Center for Teaching and Faculty Development. Before coming to Amherst, Dr. Weaver was director of the Discovery Learning Research Center at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Dr. Weaver holds a Ph.D. in chemical physics from the University of Colorado, Boulder.

YaoYun Yao was appointed assistant professor in the department of world languages, literatures, and cultures at the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Yao is a graduate of Beijing Language and Culture University in China. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in East Asian languages and cultures and second-language acquisition from the University of Illinois.

coco_fusco_profileCoco Fusco will join the faculty of the College of Arts at the University of Florida in January as the holder of the Andrew Banks Family Endowed Chair. Dr. Fusco is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and critic. She is the author or editor of several books including A Field Guide for Female Interrogators (Seven Stories Press, 2008).

Dr. Fusco is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master’s degree from Stanford University and a Ph.D. in art and visual culture from Middlesex University in England.
