Middlebury College, the high-ranked liberal arts college in Vermont, has announced that three women faculty members have been promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure.
Joyce Mao was promoted to associate professor of history. She specializes in American foreign relations in the 20th century. Dr. Mao is the author of Asia First: China and the Making of Modern American Conservatism (University of Chicago Press, 2015). Dr. Mao joined the Middlebury College faculty in 2008. She earned bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in history from the University of California, Berkeley.
Sarah S. Stroup will be an associate professor of political science in the coming academic year. She joined the college’s faculty in 2008. Dr. Stroup is the author of Borders Among Activists: International NGOs in the United States, Britain, and France (Cornell University Press, 2012). Dr. Stroup is a graduate of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, and holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley.
Jessica Teets was also promoted to associate professor of political science. She is the author of Civil Society Under Authoritarianism: The China Model (Cambridge University Press, 2014). A member of the college’s faculty since 2009, Dr. Teets holds bachelor’s degrees in Chinese studies and government and politics from University of Maryland, a master’s degree in international relations from University of Chicago, and a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Colorado.
