State University of New York Chooses Women to Lead Two of Its Campuses

The State University of New York Board of Trustees recently appointed new presidents for four of the system’s college and university campus. Two of the new presidents are women.

Heidi Macpherson was named president of the College of Brockport. The campus, located between Rochester and Buffalo, enrolls about 7,100 undergraduate students and 1,000 graduate students. Women make up 55 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Since 2012, Dr. Macpherson has been provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Earlier, she was dean of humanities at De Montfort University in England.

Dr. Macpherson is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Cloud State University in Minnesota, where she majored in English and creative writing. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Newcastle in England.

Kristine M. Young was appointed president of Orange County Community College in Middletown, New York. The college enrolls about 7.000 students and women make up nearly 60 percent of the student body.

For the past 17 years, Dr. Young has been a member of the faculty at Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. There she has served as professor of chemistry, chair of the department of natural sciences, and vice president for academic services.

Dr. Young is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she majored in chemistry. She holds a master’s degree in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a doctorate in human resource education from the University of Illinois.
