Duke University Professor Wins a New Book Award

civil warbookhumphreysMargaret Humphreys, the Josiah Charles Trent Professor in the History of Medicine at Duke University in North Carolina, has won the inaugural George Rosen Prize from the American Association of the History of Medicine.

The prize is awarded to a book or other scholarship that has made a significant contribution to the history of public health and social medicine. Professor Humphreys was honored for her book Marrow of Tragedy: The Health Crisis of the American Civil War (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2013).

Professor Humphreys is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Harvard Medical School. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the history of science from Harvard University.
