Four University Women Honored With Prestigious Awards

rebecca-campbell-april-2015_lgRebecca Campbell, professor of psychology at Michigan State University, was recently honored with the Vision 21 Research Award from the U.S. Department of Justice. She was honored at the National Crime Victims’ Rights Service Award Ceremony in Washington for her work to develop and implement effective and appropriate responses to sexual assault victims that minimizes their trauma.

Professor Campbell is a graduate of the University of Illinois. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in ecological/community psychology from Michigan State University.

TorriKeiko Torii, Endowed Distinguished Professor of Biology at the University of Washington, has been selected to receive the 2015 Fellow of the American Society of Plant Biologists Award. The award recognizes distinguished and long-term contributions to plant biology. Professor Torii will receive the award at the society’s annual meeting in Minneapolis in July.

Professor Torii holds a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and a Ph.D. in biophysics and biochemistry from the University of Tsukuba in Japan.

JD HallJacquelyn Dowd Hall, the Julia Cherry Spruill Professor Emerita of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has received the 2015 Stephen E. Ambrose Oral History Award from the Rutgers Living History Society. Professor Hall is the founding director of the Southern Oral History Program. The program has gathered more than 5,300 oral histories over the past four decades.

Professor Hall is the author of Revolt Against Chivalry: Jessie Daniel Ames and the Women’s Campaign Against Lynching (Columbia University Press, 1993). She is a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee, and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from Columbia University.

Nancy-KriegerNancy Krieger, professor of social epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, received the Clinical Research Professor Award from the American Cancer Society. Professor Krieger is the author of Epidemiology and the People’s Health: Theory and Context (Oxford University Press, 2011).

Dr. Krieger holds a master’s degree from the University of Washington and a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.
