Three Women Stepping Down Form High-Level Positions in Higher Education

hale-claudiaClaudia L. Hale, professor in the School of Communication Studies at Ohio University in Athens, is retiring from her faculty post. She has taught communications courses at the university for the past 25 years. Earlier in her career, she taught at Iowa State University.

Dr. Hale is a graduate of Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where she majored in physical education. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in speech communication from the University of Illinois.

ileen2Eileen B. Wilson-Oyelaran, president of Kalamazoo College in Michigan, announced that she will retire on June 30, 2016. Dr. Oyelaran has served as the 17th president of the college since July 2005. Earlier, she was vice president and dean at Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

President Wilson-Oyelaran is a native of Los Angeles and earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Pomona College in Claremont, California. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in child development and early childhood education from Claremont Graduate University.

Ruth-StriegelRuth Weissman has announced that she is stepping down from her post as provost and vice president for academic affairs at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, at the end of the academic year. She will remain at the university as the Walter A. Crowell University Professor of the Social Sciences.

Dr. Weissman is a graduate of Eberhard-Karls-Universität in Tübingen, Germany and holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.
