The Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards recognize works that make important contributions to our understanding of racism and cultural diversity. The awards, now in their 80th year, are presented by the Cleveland Foundation. Winners each receive a $10,000 prize. This year’s Anisfield-Wolf awards will be presented at the Ohio Theatre in Cleveland on September 10.
There is only one woman among the five winners of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards this year. Marilyn Chin is a professor of poetry at San Diego State University in California. She is being honored for her collection of poetry Hard Love Province (W. W. Norton, 2015). The book is her fourth published collection of poetry.
Professor Chin was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and holds a master of fine arts degree in creative writing from the University of Iowa.
With more than 30 years of experience in higher education, Dr. Richtermeyer has spent the past three years as executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and provost at Rutgers University-Camden
Cheryl Norman was appointed president of Ridgewater College in Minnesota and Ellen Kennedy was named interim president of Cape Cod Community College in Massachusetts.
Dr. Scarlatta has led the University of Michigan-Dearbon on an interim basis for the past year. Pending approval from the board of regents, she is slated to become the university's permanent leader on May 22.
Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
The selected candidate should have expertise and experience in theoretical models in labor and public economics as well as in microeconometrics and programming.
