Women Appointed to Administrative Posts at Colleges and Universities

gambrellLetizia Gambrell-Boone was appointed vice president for student affairs at Virginia State University. She has served as senior director in academic and student affairs, special assistant to the president, and deputy dean at Hampton University in Virginia.

Dr. Gambrell-Boone holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in counseling and student development from Hampton University. She earned a doctorate in higher education administration from George Washington University.

cummingsEvangeline Cummings was named assistant provost and director of UF Online at the University of Florida. UF Online offers 15 bachelor’s degree programs and enrolls about 1,000 students. Since 2008, Cummings has been director of the Strategic Management Division at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C.

Cummings is a graduate of the University of Florida, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in environmental science and policy from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

MooreKaren Nelson Moore, a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, was elected president of the Harvard University Board of Overseers. She has been a member of the Board of Overseers since 2010.

Judge Moore is a graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Law School.

LaiAudrey Marcus Berkman was named Rabbi and director of the Hillel International chapter at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. She will begin her duties at the college at the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year.

Rabbi Berkman is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio. She earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Harvard Divinity School.

Joanne Woodward was appointed vice president for diversity and inclusion at the University of North Texas in Denton. She will begin her new duties this summer. She has been serving as vice provost for institutional equity and diversity and chief diversity officer at North Carolina State University in Raleigh.

Woodward is a graduate of Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, where she majored in history. She holds a master’s degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Mailick_Marsha_hs14_1196Marsha Mailick was named the inaugural vice chancellor for research and graduate education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been serving in the post on an interim basis since September. Previously, she served for 13 years as director of the university’s Waisman Center, which focuses on developmental disabilities and neurodegenerative diseases.

Dr. Mailick has been on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin since 1998. She holds a Ph.D. in social policy from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.

Hemlata-JhaveriHemlata Jhaveri is the new executive director of housing and food service at the University of Texas at Austin. She is the former director of residence life at the university. Previously, Dr. Jhaveri was associate director of residence life at California State University, Chico.

Dr. Jhaveri holds an MBA from Illinois State University and a doctorate in education and human resource studies from Colorado State University.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
