The Virginia Tech Women’s Center will receive the Women’s Network Leadership Award from the American Council on Education at the group’s annual meeting on March 14. The Women’s Center is being honored for its Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Program. The program matches master’s degree recipients with professional mentors for one-on-one coaching. The program is designed for women who are aspiring higher education administrators who wish to gain leadership knowledge and experience. Now in its eighth year, the program has provided guidance for more than 200 women.
Anna LoMascolo, co-director of the Women’s Center at Virginia Tech, says “the Women’s Leadership and Mentoring Program happens because of the investment that women make in women at Virginia Tech. The program is a success because in all of the years of asking favors – for faculty, for mentors, for special topical sessions, for planning and feedback – I’ve never once been told no. For a Women’s Center director, it just doesn’t get any better than that.”
Dr. LoMascolo received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies and a Ph.D. in sociology from Virginia Tech. She also earned a master’s degree in sociology from California State University, Humboldt.
