Seven Women in New Faculty Roles

wills_cClaire Wills was appointed the Leonard L. Milberg ’53 Professor in Irish Letters at Princeton University in New Jersey. She will begin teaching at Princeton this coming fall. Since 1995, Dr. Wills has taught at Queen Mary University of London.

Professor Wills is the author five books including The Best Are Leaving: Emigration and Post-War Irish Culture (Cambridge University Press, 2015) and That Neutral Island: A History of Ireland During the Second World War (Faber and Faber, 2007). She holds bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from the University of Oxford.

carrie-scanga1Carrie Scanga was promoted to associate professor of art at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. She was also granted tenure. She is a printmaker and installation artist.

Scanga is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Washington.

tuckerAnita L. Tucker was promoted to associate professor in the International Business School at Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts. She was also granted tenure. Before joining the Brandeis faculty in 2014, Dr. Tucker taught at Harvard Business School.

Dr. Tucker earned a doctorate in business administration from Harvard University.

Dr. Janet Carpenter, IU School of Nursing, 9-23-14Joan S. Carpenter was named Distinguished Professor at Indiana University. The rank is the highest faculty position at the university. Dr. Carpenter, a leading expert on menopausal symptom assessment and management, holds the Sally Reahard Chair in Nursing at the university. She also serves as associate dean for research at the Indiana University School of Nursing.

Professor Carpenter is a graduate of Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in nursing science from the University of Kentucky.

beckmanchristineChristine Beckman, an associate professor of management and organization in the School of Business at the University of Maryland, College Park, was named the inaugural academic director of the Center for Social Value Creation at the university.

Dr. Beckman holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master’s degree in sociology, and a Ph.D. in organizational behavior, all from Stanford University.

Madhavi-KadakiaMadhavi P. Kadakia was appointed chair of the department of biochemistry and molecular biology at Wright State University in Detroit. Dr. Kadakia has been on the university’s faculty since 1999 and is the associate director of the Center for Genomics Research.

Professor Kadakia holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Mumbai in India. She earned a Ph.D. in infectious diseases and microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh.

bryna-goodmanBryna Goodman, professor of history at the University of Oregon was named a fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey. She will use her time at the institute to complete work on a forthcoming book entitled Finance and the New Chinese Republic.

Professor Goodman holds a Ph.D. in Chinese history from Stanford University.

The First Woman President of Schenectady County Community College in New York

Nicole Reaves has been serving as executive vice president and chief programs officer at Wake Technical Community College in Raleigh, North Carolina. On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
