Four Women Named to Dean Positions at American Universities

beverly_wendland_0Beverly Wendland was named to the James B. Knapp Deanship of the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. She has served as interim dean since July 2014. Previously, she served as chair of the department of biology. Dr. Wendland has been on the faculty at Johns Hopkins since 1998.

Dr. Wendland is a 1986 graduate of the University of California, San Diego, where she majored in bioengineering. She holds a Ph.D. in neuroscience from Stanford University.

cristina-della-colettaCristina Della Coletta is the new dean of the Division of Arts and Humanities at the University of California, San Diego. She was a professor of Italian literature and associate dean at the University of Virginia. She first joined the faculty at the University of Virginia in 1992.

Dr. Coletta did her undergraduate work at the University of Venice in Italy. She holds a master’s degree in Italian from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Italian from the University of California at Los Angeles.

AmyReynoldsAmy Reynolds has been chosen as the next dean of the College of Communication and Information at Kent State University in Ohio. She will begin her new role on July 1. Currently, she is the director of the Reilly Center for Media and Public Affairs at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. Before joining the LSU faculty in 2010, Dr. Reynolds was associate dean for research and graduate studies at the Indiana University School of Journalism.

Dr. Reynolds is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. She holds a master’s degree in journalism from Indiana University and a Ph.D. in mass communication from the University of Texas.

JervisKathryn Jervis was named interim dean of the College of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island in Kingston. She is an associate professor of accounting and information science at the university.

Dr. Jervis is a graduate of Rhode Island College. She holds a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Rhode Island and a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Connecticut.
