Six Women in New Teaching Roles at U.S. Universities

broderickTamera Broderick is a new assistant professor of electrical engineering and computer science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She recently completed her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkeley.

Dr. Broderick is a graduate of Princeton University in New Jersey, where she majored in mathematics. She holds master’s degrees from Cambridge University in England and the University of California, Berkeley.

Lakami BakerLakami Baker was promoted to associate professor of management at Auburn University. According to the Ph.D. Project, Dr. Baker is one of only 184 Black women teaching management at U.S. business schools.

Dr. Baker is a graduate of Prairie View A&M University in Texas. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Texas and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

rothman-denesLucia Rothman-Denes was named the A.J. Carlson Professor at the University of Chicago. She has been serving as a professor in the department of molecular genetics and cell biology. Professor Rothman-Denes has been on the faculty at the university since 1975.

Dr. Rothman-Denes holds a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Donna Harsch-December 15 2014Donna Harsch was named chair of the department of history at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, effective July 1. Professor Harsch joined the faculty at Carnegie Mellon in 1990.

Dr. Harsch, who earned a Ph.D. at Yale University, is the author of German Social Democracy and the Rise of Nazism (University of North Carolina Press, 1993) and Revenge of the Domestic: Women, the Family, and Communism in the German Democratic Republic (Princeton University Press, 2006).

April BenasichApril A. Benasich is the inaugural holder of the Elizabeth H. Solomon Endowed Chair in Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience at Rutgers University in New Jersey. She also serves as director of the Infancy Studies Laboratory at the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience at the Rutger University campus in Newark.

Professor Benasich holds a Ph.D. in experimental/cognitive neuroscience and clinical psychology from New York University.

pt-buzzanell-patricePatrice Buzzanell was appointed to the Susan Bulkeley Butler Chair for Leadership Excellence at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She joined the Purdue University faculty in 1999.

Professor Buzzanell is a graduate of Towson University in Maryland. She holds a master’s degree from Ohio University and a Ph.D. in organizational communication from Purdue University.
