Jennifer Klein, professor of history at Yale University, received the 2014 Hans Sigrist Prize from the University of Bern in Switzerland. Professor Klein was honored for her research on women and precarity, particularly as it relates to the history of Social Security in the United States. The award comes with a cash prize of 100,000 Swiss francs.
Professor Klein joined the Yale faculty in 2003 after teaching at Smith College. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Barnard College in New York City and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Virginia. She is the co-author of Caring for America: Home Health Workers In the Shadow of the Welfare State (Oxford University Press, 2012).
Carol Ann Paul was honored posthumously with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience. A professor at Wellesley College, Dr. Paul died on October 23 at the age of 66.
The Faculty for Undergraduate Neuroscience has changed the name of its annual faculty honor to the Carol Ann Paul Educator of the Year Award.
Susan Hanson, Distinguished University Professor Emerita at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, has been awarded the 2015 Stanley Brunn Award for Creativity in Geography from the Association of American Geographers. Dr. Hanson is a past president of the AAG and taught at Clark University from 1984 to 2010.
Dr. Hanson is a graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont. After serving in the Peace Corps in Kenya, she earned a Ph.D. in geography at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Susan J. Carroll, professor of political science and women’s and gender studies, and senior scholar at the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, was recognized for Lifetime Contributions to Political Science by the Political Studies Association of the United Kingdom. Professor Carroll’s latest book, which she co-authored, is More Women Can Run: Gender and Pathways to the State Legislature (Oxford University Press, 2013).
Professor Carroll is a magna cum laude graduate of Miami University in Ohio. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in political science from Indiana University.
Dr. Weir is a senior lecturer of global affairs at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. She was recently named the inaugural executive director of the Jackson School's new Center for Peace and the Global Good, a hub for scholars and students working to address challenges in human rights and global health.
