Here is this week’s news of grants and gifts that may be of particular interest to women in higher education.
The University of Illinois is leading a consortium of universities that received a $7 million grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development to support women in agriculture around the world. The project is named “Integrating Gender and Nutrition Within Agricultural Extension Services.” Among the other participants in the consortium are the University of Florida and the University of California, Davis.
Smith College, the highly rated liberal arts college for women in Northampton, Massachusetts, received a $100,000 grant from the Hearst Foundation to support the college’s Achieving Excellence in Mathematics, Engineering, and Sciences programs. The grant will fund research fellowships for Smith students and peer mentoring support programs.
The University of Alabama at Birmingham, the New Orleans School of Public Health of Louisiana State University, and the University of Mississippi are sharing a five-year, $2,240,000 grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to create the Gulf South Young Breast Cancer Survivors Network. The grant program is under the direction of Karen Meneses, associate dean for research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing.
