New Administrative Roles in Higher Education for Eight Women

Gayle BargeGayle Colston Barge was named vice president for institutional advancement at Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington. She has been serving as director of university public relations at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She begins her new job on November 17.

Dr. Barge is a graduate of Minot State University in North Dakota. She earned a master’s degree in strategic communication and leadership from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and a doctorate in education from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California.

riveraSuzanne M. Rivera was promoted to vice president for research at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 2011, she has been the associate vice president for research. Earlier, Dr. Rivera was vice president for research administration at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Rivera is a graduate of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. She holds a master of social work degree from the University of California, Berkeley and a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Texas at Dallas.

mabokela_aReitumetse Obakeng Mabokela was appointed vice provost for international affairs and global strategies at the University of Illinois. She has been serving as a professor of education and assistant dean for international studies in education at Michigan State University.

Dr. Mabokela is a magna cum laude graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio, where she majored in economics. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois. Professor Mabokela is the author or editor of several books including Soaring Beyond Boundaries: Women Breaking Barriers in Traditional Societies (Sense Publishers, 2007) and Voices of Conflict: Desegregating South African Universities (Routledge, 2000).

gardnerMarcie Gardner was named assistant vice president for investigations at Claremont McKenna College in California. She is a criminal defense attorney for both adults and juveniles.

Gardner is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Redlands in California. She earned her law degree at the University of California, Davis.

masucciMichelle Masucci was appointed vice provost for research at Temple University in Philadelphia. She has been serving in the post on an interim basis since 2012. Dr. Masucci joined the faculty at the university in 1997 and currently is a professor of geography. Earlier, she taught at Auburn University in Alabama and the University of West Georgia.

Professor Masucci is a graduate of Salisbury University in Maryland. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in geography from Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts.

JordanaPomeroyJordana Pomeroy was named director of the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University in Miami. Since 2012, she was the executive director of the Louisiana State University Museum of Art in Baton Rouge. She will begin her new job in January.

Dr. Pomeroy is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She earned a Ph.D. in art history at Columbia University.

adkinsGenesee Adkins was appointed director of state relations at the University of Washington in Seattle. Since 2009, she has been serving as director of government relations for King County, Washington. Earlier, Adkins was state legislator director for the city of Seattle.

Adkins is a graduate of the University of Rochester in New York.

leroy_lindsayLindsay LeRoy is the new director of alumni relations at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She has served in the post on an interim basis since April. Previously, LeRoy was assistant director of alumni relations for chapter management.

LeRoy is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University, where she majored in advertising and public relations.
