Wesleyan University Orders On-Campus Fraternities to Admit Women

wesleyan logoWesleyan University, the highly rated liberal arts college in Middletown, Connecticut, has announced that all fraternities on campus must now admit women to their ranks. Not only will women have to be admitted but they must be well-represented in the body and leadership of the organization. Fraternities have three years to comply with the new requirements or they will not be permitted to remain on campus.

Earlier this year, a women student sued the university alleging that she had been raped at a fraternity house while several members of the fraternity looked on.

In a letter to the campus community, President Michael S. Roth and board chair Joshua Boger stated that they “recognize that residential fraternities have contributed greatly to Wesleyan over a long period of time, we also believe they must change to continue to benefit their members and the larger campus community.”
