Two Women Are Finalists for Dean of the Graduate School at the University of Georgia

UGA-University-of-Georgia-1785-seal-variantThe University of Georgia has announced four finalists for the position of dean of the Graduate School. All four candidates will be on campus for public forums and interviews by October 1. Two of the four finalists are women.

Pic Pena WantsMilagros Pena is a professor of sociology and women’s studies and associate dean for social and behavioral sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Studies at the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is the author of Latina Activists Across Borders: Women’s Grassroots Organizing in Mexico and Texas (Duke University Press, 2007). Dr. Pena received a Ph.D. in sociology at Stony Brook University of the State University of New York System.

greeneVictoria Greene is the Stevenson Professor of Physics and senior associate dean for graduate education in the College of Arts and Sciences at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Greene has served on the Vanderbilt University faculty since 1994. Professor Greene is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in physics from Yale University. She is the former chair of the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics of the American Physical Society.

On July 15, she is slated to become the first woman president of Schenectady County Community College within the State University of New York System.
