Harvard’s Judith Singer Honored for Outstanding Achievement in the Statistical Sciences

JSingerJudith Singer, senior vice provost for faculty development and diversity and the James Bryant Conant Professor of Education at Harvard University, was announced as the recipient of the Janet L. Norwood Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Statistical Sciences. The award is presented by the department of biostatistics of the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Norwood was the first woman commissioner of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and is past-president of the American Statistical Association.

Dr. Singer has been on the faculty at Harvard University since 1984. Her research focuses on improving the quantitative methods used in social, educational, and behavioral research, particularly the practice of multilevel modeling, survival analysis, and individual growth modeling.

Professor Singer is a summa cum laude graduate of the University at Albany of the State University of New York System. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in statistics from Harvard University.
