Yale University and New York University have received two grants totaling $200,000 to study gender bias in the online reference source Wikipedia. The grant document states that “an emerging body of research indicates that Wikipedia suffers from systemic gender bias with respect to both contributors and content. How and why is this bias produced?” Conducting the research will be Julia Adams, a professor of sociology at Yale University and Hannah Bruckner, the associate dean of social sciences at the Abu Dhabi campus of New York University.
