In Memoriam: JoAnn Carmin, 1958-2014

JoAnn Carmin, an associate professor of environmental policy and planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology died on July 15 after a long illness. She was 56 years old.
Dr. Carmin served on the MIT faculty since 2003. Previously, she was an assistant professor at Virginia Tech. Her recent research focused on how cities around the world were dealing with the issue of climate change.
Dr. Carmin was the co-editor of four books including Green Activism in Post-Socialist Europe and the Former Soviet Union (Routledge, 2011) and Environmental Inequalities Beyond Borders: Local Perspectives on Global Injustices (MIT Press, 2011).
Professor Carmin held a bachelor’s degree in management and organizational behavior and a master’s degree in management and organizational theory from Cornell University. She earned a Ph.D. in environmental policy and planning at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
