Deborah Jin Is Awarded the 2014 Isaac Newton Medal from the Institute of Physics

jinDeborah S. Jin, a physicist at the National Institute of Standards (NIST) and a fellow of JILA, a collaborative effort of the NIST and the University of Colorado, has won the 2014 Isaac Newton Medal from the Institute of Physics. Dr. Jin’s laboratory at JILA was the first to produce the ultra-cold atomic gas of fermions. Her work is on the cutting edge of superconductivity and has practical implications in the transmission of electrical energy and in electronic data storage.

JILA was founded in 1962 as the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics but has now expanded its research into other fields. Dr. Jin also serves as an adjunct professor of physics at the University of Colorado.

Dr. Jin is a graduate of Princeton University and holds a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago.
