The First Doctoral Recipient in Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago

Recently Paulina Rincon-Delgadillo became the first student to earn a Ph.D. in molecular engineering at the University of Chicago. A native of Guadalajara, Mexico, Dr. Rincon-Delgadillo’s dissertation was entitled, “Origin of Defects in Directed Self-Asembly of Block Copolymers Using Feature Multiplication.”

Dr. Rincon-Delgadillo is a graduate of the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Guadalajara, where she majored in chemical engineering. She worked for five years in the private sector before coming to the United States to pursue graduate study at the University of Wisconsin. When her adviser moved to the University of Chicago, she transferred as well.

Rincon-Delgadillo spent more than two years at imec (formerly known as the Interuniversity Microelectronics Centre), a global consortium of semiconductor companies based in Belgium, where she conducted research on a new technique for transistor fabrication in a manufacturing environment. For her work in Belgium, Dr. Rincon-Delgadillo is receiving a second Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the Catholic University of Leuven.

Dr. Rincon-Delgadillo is returning to Belgium where she has been hired as a researcher at imec.
