Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg has announced the promotion of 24 faculty members to the rank of full professor. Six of the 24 promotions went to women.
Kathryn Clarke Albright was named full professor of architecture. She holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in design studies from Harvard University.
Sonia Hirt was appointed full professor of urban affairs and planning. She is a graduate of the University of Architecture and Civil Engineering in Sofia, Bulgaria. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in urban and regional planning from the University of Michigan.
Jennifer Hodgson is a new full professor of population health sciences. Dr. Hodgson has been on the faculty at Virginia Tech since 2007. She is a graduate of the University of Sydney in Australia and holds a Ph.D. in equine respiratory diseases from Washington State University.
Wenjing Lou was promoted to full professor of computer science. She has taught at Virginia Tech since 2011 and was previously on the faculty at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. Dr. Lou earned a Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Florida.
Achla Marathe was appointed full professor of agriculture and applied economics. She is a graduate of Delhi University in India and holds a master’s degree from Maharshi Dayanand University, also in India. She earned a Ph.D. in economics at the University at Albany of the State University of New York system.
Madeline Schreiber was named full professor of geosciences. Dr. Schreiber has taught at Virginia Tech since 1999. She is a graduate of Yale University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
