Lori Heafner has been named the next president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, South Carolina. She will begin her presidency on January 4.
According to the most recent data from the U.S. Department of Education, Horry-Georgetown Technical College enrolls more than 7,900 students. Women represent 64 percent of the student population.
Dr. Heafner has worked for Horry-Georgetown Technical College for the past two decades, most recently serving as vice president for academic affairs. She previously served as vice president for institutional effectiveness and development. Her earlier leadership roles spanned strategic planning, accreditation, grants, assessment, and community and workshop partnerships. Dr. Heafner has also taught as an adjunct instructor.
“I am deeply honored to be selected as the next president of Horry-Georgetown Technical College,” said Dr. Heafner. “For 20 years, HGTC has been an important part of my life, and I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary faculty and staff who are deeply committed to our students and communities. I am grateful for the confidence of the Area Commission and excited to build upon the college’s strong foundation as we expand opportunities for our students, strengthen our partnerships and continue meeting the changing educational and workforce needs of our region.”
A graduate of Cleveland Community College in Shelby, North Carolina, Dr. Heafner holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, a master’s degree in educational administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and a Ph.D. in educational sciences with a concentration in higher education administration from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina.
