Christina L. Bloebaum is the new provost and senior vice president of academic affairs at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She began her new role on August 10.
Since August 2018, Dr. Bloebaum has served as dean of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering at Kent State University in Ohio. Earlier, she spent six years as the Dennis and Rebecca Muilenburg Professor of Aerospace Engineering at Iowa State University, where she also led the Iowa Space Grant Consortium. Earlier in her career, she worked at the National Science Foundation, the University at Buffalo in New York, and NASA’s Langley Research Center.
“I was drawn to Wayne State because of its distinctive mission, commitment to accessible excellence and its deep connection to Detroit,” said Dr. Bloebaum. “Wayne State has built remarkable momentum in student success, academic and research excellence, and community impact. I believe we can and should strive to become the nation’s premier urban research university and look forward to listening, learning and working alongside faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners to shape the university’s future together.”
Dr. Bloebaum holds bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in aerospace engineering, all from the University of Florida.
