Mildred Haipt, former faculty member at the College of New Rochelle, passed away on August 4. She was 97 years old.
After earning her bachelor’s degree in social studies from Fordham University in New York, Dr. Haipt, a native of Newark, New Jersey, became a member of the Ursulines of the Roman Union Eastern Province in 1954. She went on to receive her master’s degree in educational psychology from Fordham University and her doctorate in educational administration, supervision, and curriculum from the University of Maryland.
Dr. Haipt’s career in education began as a teacher at Ursuline High Schools in New York, Delaware, and Maryland. She later joined the faculty of the education department at the College of New Rochelle in New York (the college has since been acquired by what is now Mercy University). She also served as director of education for the Ursulines of the Eastern Province and had a stint as a visiting scholar and teacher at Assumption University in Thailand. In retirement, Dr. Haipt founded and chaired Serviam Girls Academy, a middle school for girls in Wilmington, Delaware.
