The Huge Gender Gap in U.S. Dental School Faculty Is Hard to Swallow

Data from the American Dental Association shows that in the 2007-08 academic year there were 2,949 women on the faculties of U.S. dental schools. Women make up about slightly more than one quarter of all dental school faculty.
If we look at tenured faculty, we find only 167 women nationwide hold tenured faculty positions at U.S. dental schools. They make up 16.5 percent of all tenured dental school faculty.
