Another Women’s College Is Considering Admitting Men

cse copyThe College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown New Jersey, enrolls about 1,550 students. The traditional undergraduate on-campus degrees programs are only for women while men can enroll in graduate and continuing education programs at the college. Since 2012, total enrollments have dropped by more than 26 percent.

Founded in 1899 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth, the college is eliminating 17 teaching positions in an effort to deal with what it calls “serious financial challenges.” The job cuts come on the heels of layoffs of 14 staff members last spring.

In addition to the layoffs, the college is reassessing its academic programs. A spokesperson said that fewer but stronger academic programs will be offered in the future. The college may also consider admitting men to its undergraduate on-campus programs.
