University of New Mexico Names Candidates for Dean of University Libraries

The University of New Mexico has identified five candidates for the position of dean of university libraries and learning sciences. All candidates will visit the University of New Mexico campus before mid-March for interviews, meetings, and public forums. Two of the five candidates are women.
Mary Farrell is dean of libraries at the University of Wyoming. Farrell is a graduate of the University of Missouri at Kansas City. She holds a master of library science degree from the University of Arizona and a master of public administration degree from Arizona State University. She has been dean of libraries at the University of Wyoming since 2002. Earlier she was associate dean of libraries at Montana State University.
Mary Somerville is university librarian at the University of Colorado at Denver. She also servers as library director at the Auraria Library, which serves the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. Previously, she served as associate dean of the joint academic-public Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library on the campus of San José State University in California. Dr. Somerville is a graduate of Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She holds a master of library and information science degree from the University of Hawaii, a master’s degree in British and American women’s literature from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vermont, and a Ph.D. in computer and information sciences and support services from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati.
