Bowdoin College, the highly rated liberal arts educational institution in Brunswick, Maine, has announced the promotion of five faculty members from assistant to associate professor. All five were granted tenure. Three of the five faculty member receiving promotions are women. The promotions are effective on July 1.
Nadia V. Celis was promoted to associate professor of romance languages. She has served on the Bowdoin College faculty since 2007. Dr Celis is a member of the executive council of the Caribbean Studies Association and teaches courses on Latin American literature. Dr. Celis is a graduate of the University of Cartagena in Colombia, She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Rutgers University.
Danielle H. Dube, a member of the Bowdoin faculty since 2007, will be an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry. She teaches courses in chemical biology, biochemistry, and drug discovery. Dr. Dube is a graduate of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where she majored in biology. She holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley.
Vyjayanthi Ratnam Selinger was named an associate professor of Asian studies. Her research focuses on Japanese language and literature. She is the author of Authorizing the Shogunate: Ritual and Material Symbolism in the Literary Construction of Warrior Order(Brill, 2013). Dr. Selinger is a graduate of Jawaharlal Nehru University in India. She holds a master’s degree from Harvard University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.
Dr. Weir is a senior lecturer of global affairs at the Yale Jackson School of Global Affairs. She was recently named the inaugural executive director of the Jackson School's new Center for Peace and the Global Good, a hub for scholars and students working to address challenges in human rights and global health.
Dr. Maggioni comes to her new role with more than 15 years of teaching and leadership experience in higher education. Most recently, she was assistant provost at Massachusetts Bay Community College
Dr. Blankenbaker has served as president of the Tarrant County College Northwest campus since 2017. She recently assumed additional responsibilities as the chief academic officer for the community college's online and in-person campuses.
Most recently, Dr. Hooyman was vice president of academic affairs and provost of Northwest Missouri State University. She was the first woman to serve in that role.
Born and raised in Alaska, Dr. O'Hara previously spent more than two decades with the College of Education at California State University, Sacramento. More recently, she was executive director of Sierra College's Nevada County Campus.
