Historian Johanna Miller Lewis Honored by the Association of Gravestone Studies

johannaMillerJohanna Miller Lewis, professor of history and associate dean of the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock, has been selected to receive the Oakley Certificate of Merit Award from the Association of Gravestone Studies. Professor Miller is being honored for her work at the Rohwer Relocation Center Cemetery at the site of a World War II-era Japanese internment camp in Desha County, Arkansas.

The Association of Gravestone Studies, based in Greenfield, Massachusetts, fosters appreciation of the cultural significance of gravestones and burying grounds through study and preservation.

Professor Lewis has been teaching at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock since 1991 and was promoted to full professor in 2000. A native of Baltimore, Maryland, she is a graduate of Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She holds a master’s degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and a Ph.D. from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
