There Are 13 New Women on the Faculty at Lehigh University

Lehigh University, the highly ranked educational institution in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, has 27 new faculty members this fall. Thirteen of the new faculty members are women.

Angela C. Brown is an assistant professor of chemical engineering. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Brown is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University and holds master’s and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from Drexel University in Philadelphia.

Bridget V. Dever was appointed assistant professor of education and human services. She was an assistant professor in the department of educational policy studies at Georgia State University in Atlanta. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Dever holds a master’s degree in clinical/school psychology from Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and a doctorate in education and psychology from the University of Michigan.

Heather M. Jaeger is a new assistant professor of chemistry. She was conducting postdoctoral research at the University of Rochester. Dr. Jaeger is a graduate of Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis and holds a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Georgia.

Susan Elizabeth Kart was appointed an assistant professor of art, architecture and design and holds a joint appointment in Africana studies. She is the former curator of the art gallery at the Yonkers Riverfront Library and taught African art history at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. Dr. Kart is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in African art history from Columbia University.

Tamara Lambert was named an assistant professor of accounting. She was an assistant professor of accounting at the University of Massachusetts. Dr. Lambert, who is a certified public accountant, earned her bachelor’s degree at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She holds a Ph.D. in accounting from Drexel University.

Jayeon Lee is an assistant professor of journalism and communication. Prior to coming to Lehigh, she was a staff writer for the Chosun Ilbo, a newspaper in Korea. Dr. Lee is a graduate of Korea University. She earned a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a Ph.D. in communication from Ohio State University.

Ju-Yeon Lee was appointed assistant professor of marketing. She was a research and teaching assistant at the Foster School of Business of the University of Washington. Dr. Lee is a graduate of Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea. She earned an MBA and a Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Washington.

Monica R. Miller was named an assistant professor of religion studies and an assistant professor of Africana studies. She was a visiting assistant professor at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She is the author of Religion and Hip Hop (Routledge, 2012). Dr. Miller is a graduate of Fordham University in The Bronx, New York, where she majored in religious studies. She earned a master’s degree in theological studies from Drew University in Madison, New Jersey, and a Ph.D. in theology, ethics, and human science from the Chicago Theological Seminary.

Irina B. Panovska is a new assistant professor of economics. Dr. Panovska is a graduate of Ohio University in Athens, where she majored in economics and mathematics. She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in economics from Washington University in St. Louis.

Kelly M. Schultz was appointed assistant professor of chemical engineering. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Schultz is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. She earned a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Delaware.

Tara J. Troy was named an assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering. She was serving as an associate research scientist at Columbia University. Dr. Troy is a Lehigh University graduate and holds a Ph.D. in civil and environmental engineering from Princeton University in New Jersey.

Natasha Vermaak is an assistant professor of mechanical engineering and mechanics. She was conducting postdoctoral research at the National Polytechnic Institute in Grenoble, France. Dr. Vermaak holds a Ph.D. in materials science from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Maria Barbara Zepeda-Cortes was appointed an assistant professor of history. She had been serving on the faculty at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Zepeda-Cortes is a graduate of El Colegio de Mexico. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at the University of California at San Diego.
