Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, recently announced the appointment of 12 faculty members to endowed chairs. Two of the 12 professors appointed to named chairs are women.
Senta Victoria Greene was appointed to the Stevenson Chair in Physics and was named senior associate dean of graduate education. Professor Greene has served on the Vanderbilt faculty since 1994. She is a graduate of the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from Yale University.
Ruth Hill, a professor of Spanish, was named to the Andrew Mellon Chair in the Humanities. Before joining the Vanderbilt faculty, professor Hill taught at the University of Virginia for 16 years and earlier was on the faculty at Columbia University. She is the author of two books: Hierarchy, Commerce, and Fraud in Bourbon Spanish America (Vanderbilt University Press, 2005) and Sceptres and Sciences in the Spains: Four Humanists and the New Philosophy, c. 1680-1740 (Liverpool University Press, 2000). Professor Hill is a graduate of Northwestern University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan.
