Brown University, the Ivy League institution in Providence, Rhode Island, has announced new child-care benefits for faculty, staff, and graduate students. Under the new plan, eligible participants will receive up to $4,000 annually for child care expenses. The plan will cover child care expenses on weekdays for children who are under the age of 6. Benefits will not be available for households with incomes above $100,000.
“Providing opportunities for members of the Brown community to access affordable high-quality child-care for preschool children is crucially important for many members of the University community and therefore for the University itself,” said Brown Provost Mark Schlissel. “Offering an income-adjusted child-care subsidy aligns with our commitment to being an employer of choice, and acknowledges the needs of families with young children.”
Brown has committed $350,000 for the program for the 2013-14 academic year. The pilot project will be reevaluated after the first year.
