Eight Women Promoted to Full Professor at Virginia Tech

Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg has announced the promotion of 26 faculty members to the position of full professor. Eight of the new full professors are women.

Barbara Allen was named full professor of science and technology in society. She earned her Ph.D. at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.

Laura Gillman was promoted to full professor of sociology. She has been on the Virginia Tech faculty since 1989. Dr. Gillman is a graduate of the University of California at San Diego. She holds a master’s degree from New York University and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin.

Linsey Marr was appointed full professor of civil and environmental engineering. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Harvard University. Dr. Marr holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in environmental engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

Nancy McGehee was promoted to full professor of hospitality and tourism management. She is a graduate of Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, and earned a master’s degree at North Carolina State University. She holds a second master’s degree and a Ph.D. in sociology from Virginia Tech.

Dini Miller was named full professor of entomology. Dr. Miller is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of Florida.

Amy Pruden-Bagchi was appointed full professor of civil and environmental engineering. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a Ph.D. in environmental science from the University of Cincinnati.

Corina Sandu was promoted to full professor of mechanical engineering. She is a graduate of the Bucharest Polytechnic Institute and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Iowa.

Janell Watson was named a full professor of foreign languages and literatures. She holds a Ph.D. from Duke University and is the editor of The Minnesota Review.
